Dave,
You have always made work fun and interesting.
I will always remember the day you smacked the window in my office door and shattered the center of my window. The time that you loaded greenhouse carts into the back of a truck so we wouldn't have to come back to get them and you climbed into the truck and shut your door and part of the back window shattered.

I will miss your responses to my spray emails.
Hope to see you around.

Enjoy your Retirement and Best Wishes.

I'll never forget when the sudden panic stop when Dave Scurlock was driving us to work at an orchard. I was in the back seat drinking coffee and reading the paper when the sudden stop occurred. My coffee ended up on the back of the front seat (just behind Dave Ferree, our boss). I didn't know what was happening as a quick glance didn't find any traffic on the road. Just then Dave shouted and pointed off to the left of the road: "Look, wild turkeys!"

Dave is certainly a unique individual, rarely do I find anyone, no matter where in Ohio that when asked doesn't say: "Do I know Dave Scurlock."

Dave, best wishes as you join the retirement community.

Dave,
We want to reflect on the occasions we had to work with you. Actually, 'work' is not the correct word, rather the times spent were more aptly like a paranormal afternoon in 'day camp'.
Firstly, the approximate distance from Gourley Hall is 120.8 miles. Our travel time, however was about an hour and 8 minutes. Time Warp?
Very strange things would occur in the basement at Gourley;the phone would ring with no reply on the other end. Working in the cooler the lights would go out and the door would slam shut. Poltergeist?
There was also the haunted truck that would drive up to the carry out window at Wendy's but headed the wrong direction ... or it would inexplicably drive on the rumble strips to the annoyance of the sleeping passenger, or mysteriously drive off from a rest stop without all the occupants ... and your personal car that had the tires that would spin but not go anywhere. Levitation?
We quite happily will never again have a normal outlook on life after all this. There was never a dull moment and thanks for all the memories.

Best wishes

Brian Sugerman and Paul McMillen

The vinicultural knowledge that you so patiently passed to me is much of the reason that I so passionately have come to love the labor of growing grapes and apples. I cannot thank you enough.

Dear Dave,

Congratulations on your retirement! It is hard to imagine what the Ohio grape industry will be like without you. You have been a wonderful colleague, a friend and "a brother from another mother." Your kindness, dedication, sense of humor, knowledge and experience will be missed by all. I have a feeling that you will not sit still. We will keep in touch!

Best wishes to you in your future endeavors!
